PETALING JAYA: Veteran MIC politician Tan Sri S. O. K. Ubaidulla Kadir Basha (pic) died at his Bukit Pantai home here at 10.30am yesterday.
MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and other leaders paid their last respects to him at 1pm.
Ubaidulla, who was in his 90s, was the former chairman of the Ubadi Foundation and was a founder member of the MIC in 1946.
He was the former permanent chairman of MIC, a senator and also Dewan Negara deputy president.
Ubaidulla received the Tokoh Maal Hijrah award in 1989, and was also credited with the formation of the Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and was also the founding president of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkim) in 1961.
Samy Vellu said Ubaidulla had dedicated himself to the community and helped bring advances.
