SALEM (Chennai): An Indian university has conferred an honorary doctorate in philosophy on MIC deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel for his contribution to politics and the Indian community in Malaysia. The former deputy women, family and community development minister became the first Malaysian to receive the doctorate from Vinayaka Missions University at its inaugural convocation here. About 200 Malaysian students are currently studying here. -- Bernama
